Snetterton’s Ups and Downs - a weekend to remember

Alan scored yet another podium in Race 1, finishing 3rd but disaster struck when the pole-sitter in race 2 struggled in get off the line, resulting in Alan being sandwiched between 2 cars crashing at up to 85mph.

"I just couldn’t believe it, in all my years of racing I’ve never been involved in such an accident and I was sandwiched between 2 cars, as I hit the back of the car in front and subsequently being hit from behind."

Alan’s Race 1 victory was in dry conditions and Alan had qualified 4th the day before. As the lights went to green he stormed into 3rd place with team-mate Boardman inches off his back wheel, maintaining this position until the chequered flag and setting one of the quickest lap times of the race.

In preparation for Race 2, all teams were concerned with the black clouds that were gathering overhead as it was reported that we were due to experience rain. The problems with the pole-sitter started in the assembly-area and once all the cars had lined up on the grid, the pole-sitter drove down the side of the grid to claim his slot.

The green flag lap started without fault, but the race start was a different story. Due to the pole-sitter not starting, the car directly behind him swerved which caused the car in 5th position to clip the pole-sitters rear wing and send him sideways, which unfortunately resulted in Alan smashing straight into the side of 5th place man and 9th place man driving straight into the back of Alan.

The race was immediately red-flagged and in total all cars directly behind the pole-sitter were wiped out and the race was delayed by 20 minutes as the marshals and scruinteers tried to remove most of the carnage and fluids from the race-track.

"As I hit into Neil, my head swung violently forward and then as Mike hit me from behind, me head was swung violently backwards - all I can say is thank god I was wearing my Hans device."

"In an estimate from the team, my car has just over 10,000 worth of damage and that’s just to buy the parts, that doesn’t include labour!"

Thankfully all Alan has suffered from is a slight case of whip lash and some mild bruising from his race harness.
